Hey Rusty, I live in New York and keep a Hermann's Tortoise. As far as the heat, that is fine for most tortoises, the Burmese Brown likes it a little cooler but Vic Morgan in Jacksonville Florida breeds them every year. The main question is the humidity. I suggest you contact Charles Abbott (Central Florida Reptile Farm), as he has kept and bred turtles/torts there for many years, perhaps he could answer with more regional experience. His phone is 321-639-3325, e-mail is CTRFLRF@AOL.COM. He is always glad to talk turtles. The Sulcatas like it very dry, you may want to contact Richard Fife, owner of Riparian Farms in Arizona, as he breeds them, to ask about keeping them in a more humid climate. He has the ivory tortoises for sale in the turtle classifieds, you can get his e-mail there. You will probably do ok with the Mediterranean torts you asked about, as long as they have places to get out of the direct sun after they bask in the morning. Good luck.
