I was under the impression that the Florida Gopher Tortoise was COMPLETELY off limits. No selling, trading or even keeping. I know of different areas locally that has an abundance of Gopher Torts dangerously close to new developments. You would think the state would permit someone like ourselves to collect the Torts as opposed to letting the neighborhood kids (who coincidentally just relocated from a very urban area and know NOTHING about local Tort care)((Not that all people from urban areas don't)) bring them home for more than likely a less than happy existence. I know of one case recently in Palm Beach County where a developer had problems because the land they wanted to put new homes on had Gopher Torts throughout. I believe some sort of "rescue" was placed, but I am sure that more than one of our friends slipped through the cracks. I know I could have given them a very nice and happy home. If anybody knows anything more regarding the legalities of keeping Gophers please post. I checked that link to its listing status, but didn't see anything other than it is threatened, which I knew. Can we collect them?
