If you incubate your eggs. 27 - 30 is the recomended temps that will increase your chances of getting both sexes. The middle of that range has been found to be the crossover point for producing males and females in many turtles and tortoises.
If using vermiculite as a substrate for incubation (which is recomended by many breeders) 25:75 shoudld be the ratio of water to vermiculite by weight. You can use 50:50 but leave the eggs uncovered for a little while so it drys out a little. Constant 50:50 will probably cause the eggs to crack and explode. You can use a Rubbermaid shoebox. Filled 2/3 with vermiculate. Put a few holes (5)(1/8th inch) in the long sides for ventilation. On top of the hot water heater is a good place if you do not have an incubator.
