Playing Russian Roulette with a full chamber is asking to get hurt.
When a tortoise recieves STRESS from any source, it runs the likelyhood of breaking out in SOMETHING.(like in a human, a cold erupts)
Now when a tortise from one clime meets a tortoise from another clime, it an't use to that bug, (remember the Amazons & Flu).
Although in the wild some tortoise do probably cross over in certain areas, what you have to understand is that Sulcata's never meet a Russian or even a Redfoot etc, so how can you expect them to be able to fend of their bugs etc.
Simple answer, do not mix species. Thats not to say that with good husbandry you cannot keep several types, but each must be housed seperatly & never meet.
As you are the common denominator to all the species which you keep, you have to be ultimatly clean.

: I understand that it is generally not recomended. I have a few questions:
: 1. Does this apply to other animals (eg. dogs, cats)? Other reptiles? Or just torts?
: 2. I heard that the risks of cross contamination decreases with captive breds. Is this accurate?
: 3. Assuming the torts (sulcata, radiated, indian star, leopard) gets a thourough check up ( eg. respiratory related deseases, parasites, salmmonela, etc), am I still playing "rusian roulete"?
