: I understand that it is generally not recomended. I have a few questions:
: 1. Does this apply to other animals (eg. dogs, cats)? Other reptiles? Or just torts?
: 2. I heard that the risks of cross contamination decreases with captive breds. Is this accurate?
: 3. Assuming the torts (sulcata, radiated, indian star, leopard) gets a thourough check up ( eg. respiratory related deseases, parasites, salmmonela, etc), am I still playing "rusian roulete"?
It is not wise to house different species of snakes together also. As a general rule in my house, every reptile gets it's own home. Most reptiles are solitary unless it's mating season. It can really stress out an reptile if housed with another species.
I think I know the answers to your other 2 questions but I am not for sure of my sources so I will let someone else who's knows for sure answer those. I wouldn't want to give you the wrong info!
