You guys(gals) have been so helpful with all my questions re: hibernation and overwintering. I have decided (for this year anyway) to overwinter my tort... don't want to lose him - and I don't know enough about it yet.
So, the nagging question I still have is:
What if he decides he wants to hibernate even if I don't want him to. How do I keep him awake? (we do keep our home between 70-75 during the winter. Usually around 70 and I do have a heat lamp for him, so he will stay warm... but what if...
He has already seen a vet and he seems to be doing fine, should I take him again before winter (even if I am not hibernating him?
Also, I did go to the Tortoise Trust and looked at the archives of the conversations on the lists. They all concur with the overwintering for the first year.... I don't mind reading what they say, but I don't think I will join for now... Some messages sound nice and helpful, but as some of you mentioned it can be rough there as well. They have helpful advice and I don't think there hasn't been a question that I have not asked... In other words all my recent questions have been addressed and addressed.... Thanks for the heads-up!
