: Hi Ray,
: I wouldn't mix species at all, you've been lucky up to now but by mixing species you're playing Russian roulette.
: The radiated tortoise needs to be quarantined for at least 3 months before mixing it with any tortoise, I wouldn't put it in with any other species.
: You didn't mention how big your other torts are, but sulcatas are very agressive and could easily injure the other shyer/smaller tortoises.
: I have linked the Tortoise Trust's FAQ below, question 9 deals with the question of mixing species.
: Here's some info on Radiated torts:

: Hope this helps,

Hi Terry!
Thanks for the information. I have several questions:
1. When you say not to mix species, does this apply to all animals (eg. dogs, cats)? Or all types of reptiles? Or just tortoises?
2. I heard that the risk involved with mixing species decreases if the tortoises are captive bred? What do you think?
3. Please comment on this statement: Its ok to mix different species assuing one has a large area and ensures that each tort has been treated and tested of parasites, respiratory ailments, etc.
Thanks!
Ray
