My calcium formulas for reptiles

Somebody asked in other forum and I post my calcium formulas, calcium is a critical factor in tortoise husbandry so I will put in this forum also : )

I never buy mineral complements from pet companies. First I don't trust. Second too expensive. Third to little amount, or quantity for the money you pay.

I made my own mineral complements, the diferent chemical compounds are from some pharmaceutical dealer. (Can not help you in this way in your country).

Formula 1, for vegetarians (mainly tortoises):

6/10 Carbonato calcico Calcium carbonate
2/10 Lactato calcico Calcium lactate
2/10 Gluconato calcico Calcium gluconate

Also cuttlebone with the hard shell ( a hard slender withe lamina ) removed.

Formula 2, for carnivorous (mainly lizards):

7/10 the vegetarian calcium formula.
3/10 Fosfato bicalcico - Dicalcium phosphate

I give also calcium (cuttlebone)to the rodents that I raise for live food, they use like to gnaw it.

I don't add vit 3D becouse I have all the gangs outdoors.

You can add to this formulas other complements, under your owns or vet criteria.

A little variation in the proportions is not important.

Doses: varies according to your animals necesities (breding, growing...)from everyday to everymonth, is your choice.
