Russians need feeding mostly on weeds like dandelions, sowthistle , clover, plantain, ..... salad bought items can include watercress, chicory, endive, escarole and small amounts of romain and red-leaf lettuce. Garden plants can include Rose leaves and flowers, hibiscus leaves and flowers, grape vine leaves, honeysuckle flowers, mulberry leaves. You can add small amounts of chopped carrot to the diet and supplement EVERY feed with calcium/d3.

Stay away from fruit (it causes intestinal problems) and cabbage and kale (oxalic acid problems) peas and beans (too high protein)

Hope that helps
Les

: :It sounds like you have everything under control.
: If you soak your Russian for 10min every week or two he should be getting enough water-- remember he gets alot of water from his food. But I would put a water dish in just in case.
: I feed Skippy a variety of greens, the more variety the better,( I buy a pre-mixed salad). to this i add some grated carrots and chopped timothy hay. occasionally I add flowers as a treat--- Rose (hips and all), hybiscus, hollyhock, dandelion. The ammount I feed is about the size of a small dinner salad. If Skippy eats all of it, I'll give I'll give him more in the evening. Skippy is not a very thin tortoise, I may have to put him on a diet again this year!
: I almost never feed him fruit, maybe a little bit of melon, but that is few and far between.
: When it comes to vitamins I use them very sparingly, maybe once a week or twice a week. I think that too much vitamin could be harmfull, but I have no proof of this.
: Hope that helps.
