the person you got it from is right. you can't sex it now, not accuarately anyway. i am cunducting a little experiment to see at what size they can be accurately sexed, but will be a few more years before i have any results. generally, with redfoots, you can determine thier sex when they reach about 6-8 inches in carapace length. at this point males will have a smaller/narrower "v" in the back of the carapace, and will have a much longer tail (vent closer to the tip). 6 months is much too young to tell the sex of a redfoot. you should be able to tell in another 2-5 years depending on it's growth rate.
