What is Care fresh, and would wood pellets or corncob bedding be an acceptable substitute?...
Hi,
I wouldn't use the corn cob, it could cause the tort to become impacted. Can't comment on the carefresh, as I house my sulcatas outdoors.
A variety of leafy greens. Variety is the key here, don't just stick to one or two types. Endive, is one of the best it's a favorite and one of the better greens to feed. Try to include it in the diet.
Dandelions, romaine, escarole, turnip greens, hibiscus flowers and leaves, mulberry leaves, water cress ( the large variety)and collard greens but only feed the collards as a small part of the diet.
Feed a variety of leafy greens, mix in some freshly snipped grass from the yard, important for the fiber it provides. Cut the grass into small pieces with scissors and mix it in with the greens. You can also add in ground up Timothy or Orchard hay.
There is no way to sex a sulcata correctly untill it's around 12", even then they can surprise you!
Check out the web site i've linked below, I also recommend signing up to either the Sulcata Station email list, or the African Tortoise email list or both!
You will find a link to join the Sulcata Station list at the web site linked below.
To join the African Tortoise list go to:
http://www.egroups.com/group/African-Tortoise
It's free to subscribe to these list, and you will be in contact with lots of helpfull sulcata people from all over the US.
I'm subscribed to both lists.
Hope this helps and look forward to hearing from you at the email lists.
