I live in Kenosha Wi. I have a Sulcata. The wheather has been very weird up here this year. Some nights are down into the lower sixties. I was planning on an outdoor enclosure but have not done so as of yet. Moose is let out for several hours on the weekend and one to hours on week days. (not every day though) Too much rain to make me feel good about leaving him out all day.Moose has three hundred sq feet to roam all day in my tort proof office. The average day temp up there is 85* F. My wife thinks I am nuts keeping the temps so high. I am never up there during work hours any ways.
I would never recomend a Sulcata for some one in the upper midwest. I got mine thru a rescue.
If you are ever in the Gurnee area check out the serpant sarfary. They have a huge sulcata for sale. He appears to be a male. Shell is realativily smooth for a captive bred. The owner is selling this one from his personal collection.
The sepant safary is a reptile zoo and pet shop. I am not recomending them as a pet shop. However the sulcata they have looks great and needs a quieter life.
: I'm considering housing my torts outdoors part of the time during the nicer midwestern times of year. I was wondering if any of you are in the midwest and have outdoor habitats? I'm in the Chicagoland area. The torts would come indoors in the evening. What kind of habitat do you have? How do you keep it preditor-free?
