: i have to agree. if the parent is really excited and devoted to the care of a reptile, it can work. i have small children, but the responsibility is ALL mine. a two or three year old is much to young to handle at all other than the occasional petting. no tortoise would be happy in an aquarium. a box turtle could be, but they would even be happier in something else. a water turtle would be happy in a 75 gal, like a slider, but they can't be handled at all by a small child and they require a lot of work as they are very messy. have him do some research and get a pet suited to a child.... they will be much happier in the long run with something else. lizards would do great in a tank like that. there are several varieties that are available now. but again, i don't suggest handling by a child. hope this helps and good luck in your search. sonja
