of the redfoots. it seems my daughter was awaken around 6:30 in the morning by some noise in the back area where the smaller tortoise were. her bedroom is located at the back of the house and she had her window opened. I found one of our small plastic preformed pools in the pen that I use for shade over the pen inside the pen. I have been using this pond over one corner of the pen. The noise she heard was no doubt the pond being knocked over by the raccoon/s. I was helping a neighbor farmer with some bales of hay untill 8:30am. She didn't think much of the noise and went back to sleep. And it was still dark or real overcasted during this time period. I also thought raccoons were chiefly nocturnal but with maybe being still dark or over casted they were still out and around. Where I live raccoons have been troublesome for us and some of the farmers. Some people think them as being cute or fun in their antics but we've had them tear things up in our pole barn and knock stuff over on our rear deck. I think my problem came about when our rotty died last year. I don't remember having this raccoon problem when she was with us in the past. There is a lot to be said about large dogs. come to think about it, we have seen an increase in deer and turkey on our property since she has passed away. Maybe I should include this abundent wildlife situation on my asking price of my house. LOL !

Mike;
: Is there a "rod and gun "club in the area? Maybe a member that hunts coons could come by and track down the culprits. It probably won't help your torts (sorry) but you'll know for sure what happened. Another point to consider, if a coon did it the theft took place during daylight hours. Raccoons aren't typically active during the day unless they are ill (rabies?). Be careful
