Paul,
Please check out the site below for *lots* of info on russian torts. Because you probably bought him at a pet store, and because he was probably wild caught, the chance of him carrying parasites is very high. I would recommend a vet check for him where the vet will do some fecal tests. If he does have parasites, the treatment is usually pretty inexpensive and easy. Just so you know, the tort can look and act completely healthy (and his feces can be normal looking) even though he is infested.
Also, please try not to home the tort in an aquarium. The bigger the space the better. Even a kiddie swimming pool (those type at Kmart, Walmart) is a better choice than an aquarium. Russians love to burrow so you can buy some timothy hay at your pet store and just dump a pile in there and he should dig right down.
