That's exactly what I'm wondering about with my bug-eating tortoise. He clearly has a real preference for insects. Place a slug and a strawberry side by side, and he'd choose the slug. Would he pyramid if he could choose his own food year round? Since he lives where he can only spend his days outdoors 10 weeks per year, I don't think he will have a problem with pyramiding. But I think it's clear that in the wild he would consume a lot of protein. Do redfoots in the wild have pyramiding? If they don't, then I would guess that protein in and of itself isn't the problem. If they do, then some pyramiding must be OK. Am I figuring this right?
: Another factor to pyramiding is being brought up further down the list. Individual personalaties. Some tortoises might have 'preferences' (for lack of a better word). These preferences could be dietary or environmental which is why you might find pyramiding in the wild.
