:Russian tortoises start out growing fast and then seem to slow down as they get older. If your tortoise is really small you might be able to keep it in a 15 gal aquarium until next spring. At the bare minimum you need aquarium/vivarium 4 times the length of the tortoise and 2 times the width of the tortoise. Personally I think that keeping the tortoise in that small of an aquarium is cruel to the animal, but it could be a good temperary solution until you can buy or build a more suitable habitat.
Remember that even though the tortoise seems small it is a very active little animal and needs alot of space to run around in and explore
