: I know that for torts you need to get the purest topsoil you can find (no vermiculite, etc...) I went to a nursery/market and I saw topsoil with compost and humus in it, nothing else. Call me stupid in the growing business, but what exactly is compost and "humus". Got an idea on the compost, but have no idea on the humus?? Thanks
Humus is organic material, ie. misc plant matter and compost is organic waste products, commonly cow patties.
