I am looking for a vet that is familiar with the new Department of Agriculture requirements to conduct an inspection for ticks and to issue a health certificate for interstate transport of tortoises. (Required for interstate transfer of African Spurred, Leopards and Bells)
I am interested in the cost of inspection, cost of certificate and if quantity discounts are available.
I would also be interested in how long the health certificate is valid following the inspection, or if one certificate is acceptable for a group of tortoises in the same shipment?
I have checked with several offices in Phoenix and fees seem to be ranging from $40-$60 for examination/inspection and another $25 for the health certificate. I'm not sure that the individuals that answered the phone understand the requirements (not sure that I do either) but $65 to $85 seems high for a visual inspection and certificate.
I hope it is acceptable to request this type of information on the forum, it will definitely save some phone calls.
Jerry
