I have a small colony of 3 female and 4 male pancake's I've had since they were 2 weeks old. They have begun to produce eggs. My problem is the females only will lay their eggs on the surface of the dirt substrate and not dig a nest. I've tried wet, dry, moist, semi moist soil etc. to try to get the females to dig and lay their eggs. No luck. Fortunately, I've been able to salvage several eggs, but there have been times when the eggs were laid while I was at work or away, and the eggs got broken. Any one with any suggestions. I have had 3 successful hatchlings out of 6 eggs, but would sure like to get a better hatch rate.
