In Reply to: WHAT DOES EVERYONE FEED THEIR TORTS??? posted by RKGJR on July 20, 2000 at 20:52:24:
:Lets start with my torts--Russian tortoise (Skippy)& a tiny sulcata (Dexter). They both get pretty much the same fair.
I start off with a prepackaged salad mix containing--Mizuna, Tatsoi, Arugla, Baby green and red romaine, Tango, Red Swiss Chard, Baby Green & Red Oak, Lollo Rosa, Radicchio; I copied this list off of the package of the salad mix. Don't ask me what everything is 'cause I've never heard of most of them.
To the salad mix I add finely chopped Timothy Hay. Occasionally I throw in some carrots. I also add Dandelion Greens & Flowers, and clover.
When they are outside I let them graze on anything they want except for things that are obviously toxic. I rarely feed them fruit, sometimes as a treat they get Strawberries or pitted Cheries. And a couple of times a week I spray their food with a liquid reptile vitamin, I am thinking about a calcium suplament for the food also. Oh, they also have access to Cuttle bone, But I don't know if they use it. They also get Rose blossoms, and sometimes Hybiscus blossoms.
Finally-- Skippy prefers his food to be fresh and relatively juicy, While Dexter seems to prefer food that has dried out for a couple of days.
