When sulcata's were being imported as wild caught individuals I don't recall seeing any with such dark scute coloration associated with new growth. It seems that in wild populations this could be fatal causing the individual to absorb more heat. Is this directly linked to pyramiding or is it also seen with "smooth" shells?
