Sorry to re-post but it's a ways down the page already. In my opinion and from what I've read and heard, a great deal of RC Paull's information from his books conflict with most other scientific established data. I would recommend relying on data from experts such as Pritchard and also some of the exotics veterinarians. This is, of course, my own personal opinion...but to my knowledge Paull is is just a person who keeps tortoises who wrote some books...and in that respect is really no higher than any of us here. Anyone's information should be verified, including ours and including his.
Kale is in fact a member of the Brassica family which includes cabbage, collards, kale and broccoli and can cause goiter if fed in excess amounts, but the feeding of a varied diet that is not heavily based on these plants should offset this tendency. If in doubt about this a small amount of dried or powdered kelp can be added to offset this tendency. Many keepers make use of Brassicas with no ill effect (taken from Hatchling Haven).
Okay saying all that I have from time to time added a leaf or two of Kale with no harm done.
The linked nutritional analysis should give you some guidelines to follow as well as some statistics on the foods many of you are using...hope this helps!
