: Just purchased a pair of Hermans from a local pet store. They have been there several months but were out of my price range. Now the store is closing and I got them for half price.Supposedly they are breeders from a guy who was moving. They were in good shape but now the female's scutes(?) are peeling away from the bony part underneath. I have a vet appointment Sunday but any advice(food, setup, and care) would be greatly appreciated. I do have experience with tortoises and turtles. Thanks!

Thanks for the replies to my post! Took both of them to the vet today. They were positive for hookworms and the vet prescribed panacur for them. He thought that the shell probelm was due mainly to the poor environment in the pet store(extremely dry and crowded)as there is no sign of infection or fungus. He suggested that we keep the shell very clean and try to get them out in the sun as much as possible for a few days and see if that makes a difference. If that doesn't help he suggested an antibiotic creme followed by a moisturizing creme. I'll let you know how things turn out.
