: : its heart breaking to see those w.c. spider tortoises being a money making tool for those greedy dealers.
: : As all of you dealers(especially those from MADAGASCAR) know that w.c. Pyxis are heavily invaded with parasites and the weather in US is totoally differnt from that in Madagascar, plus most of them will be sold to inexperienced collectors. We all understand that most of the tortoises will not live very long and only a very few of the survial specimens can produce a small number of offsprings. If spider tortoises extinct someday,i think u all commercial dealers and Madagascar Govt Authority should be responsible(at least partially) for this.
: : so pls stop saying that u are exporting overseas for the establishment of new breeding groups and for the enhancement and survival of the species,LIAR!!
Ok, lets think here. The habitat is being lost very fast, and many of these tortoises are bring found in urban establishments. They are being regulated by CITES very carefully, and they are very expensive so only people that know what they are doing will try to buy them. Not only that, but the importer cares about what animals he sells, and only wants the healthy animals, otherwise he/she loses money and creates a bad name. So before you go around bashing everyone about the export of Madagascar spider tortoises, find out the whole truth and talk to some of the exporters and importers. I am an importer/exporter, and I imported some of them a couple months ago. They were healthy, checked by the vets, everyone is happy. Plus I heard some of them are even breeding, I would galdly take C.B. ones over wild caught, but hardly any C.B. ones rae being produced because of the limited number in captivity. I the ones I sold, were sold in pairs, and are all alive/healthy. So please get you facts straight on this issue. It is our fault they are becoming extinct in the wild, the least we can do is start enough breeding programs to release a healthy population into the wild in the future.
Thanks
Justyn
