I agree it's awful for the animals, but I can
understand the problem the people are bringing
upon themselves. I had a WF&G officer here,
per invitation, to see my animals, especially
the local venomous snakes (since released),
he wasn't concerned with the tortoise at all.
Personally have also talked with the county
managers of this and neighboring counties, also
the city attorney. If I can help their animal
control officers I will, and I do like to keep
everything above board. It's tough with animal
control, they're not capable of dealing with
exotics very well, and zoos and parks are
fairly overcrowded and hardly in need of most
commonly bred animals. I've found that people
are receptive if approached in a responsible
way about exotic animals and I don't want to come
across as a "redneck breeding reptiles under
my trailer" type that they DO have to deal with
all too often. No offense to you or your friend,
but there are some horror stories, including
pet shops here and a situation with an
illegal operation of dealing animals. Front
page stuff, bad news. niki
