Terry,
Annie's diet is mostly bermuda grass and hibiscus flowers. The first couple of years I would keep her in a rubbermaid tub during cool weather and at night and would supplement her grazing with romaine lettuce. Since she can graze just about daily now I only occasionally give her a treat. Some of the treats she might get are things like a slice of tomatoe, squash, carrot, lettuce, etc. I have several hibiscus plants and give her all the flowers I can get from them. I have given her the leaves but so far she just ignores them. I also give her a rose several times a week, plus they are growing in her area so she can eat any petals that fall to the ground. I have an optunia catcus but it is not very big yet, so once a month or less she gets a piece of it. She probably eats a few bugs too. She seemed quite pleased the one time I saw her catch a roach. There are weeds and other grasses growing in her area but she seems to like the bermuda grass the best and mostly ignores the others. She has a piece of cuttlebone that just in the last few months I have finally seen her eat a little.
I have some hibiscus that flower more than others so you may want to ask at your local garden center which would be the best flowering hibiscus for your area. I have one that I pay $25 for and it spends most of its time losing its leaves and dropping buds. I think it is because it is getting too much sun, because I have another one that is about 15 feet away that gets more afternoon shade and it gets tons of flowers. I don't know if the giant white fly has made it to Arizona but if it has they will cover your hibiscus plants. I have to spray my plants almost daily and that is barely keeping them under control.
