: When administering injectible Baytril I have been told to use 5 ml per kg of tortoise weight. My question is, what strength Baytril? What I have is a 2ml vial containing 500 mg. I am assuming I must dilute it...... but to what dilution? Your assistance will be appreciated....... S.K.
This is a prescription medication. The bottom line is that you should not be using this without veterinary direction. The "5 ml per kg" information you have been given is completely wrong and extremely dangerous. I think someone has their ml confused with their mg.... a very good example of why taking non-qualified advice is likely to lead to disaster. Published guidelines for this preparation run from 2.5 mg per kg to 25 mg per kg, but in any event, using drugs of this nature without veterinary direction and supervision is most categorically not recommended.
