If you live in Arizona and are interested in sulcatas, contact the AZ Herp Assoc. at the link below. There may be sulcatas that are need of a good home, especially if you want to house them outdoors, since larger ones may be the ones given up most for adoption--these would be the people to know if you'd be interested in adopting any herps here in AZ. If you do adopt or buy from a breeder, and will be housing outside, go for torts at least 5"--crows and harris hawks are a big worry for small outdoor pets. I also live in AZ and have 2 sulcatas--they do very nicely in our weather. If you get a chance, read The Care and Breeding of the African Spurred Tortoise by Richard and Robyn Wilson, available from Carapace Press. (Richard and Robyn actually live in Glendale, AZ.) Go to http://www.tortoisetrust.org for more info on lots of torts, and to order books and videos. It's a great site.
