Why? If you're only going for 1 or 2 nites, an amount of time your tort would probably be fine either cared for by a neighbor, or by himself with appropriate food and water, what's the need? Torts aren't like dogs; my torts hate car rides to the vets'--can't imagine how they'd react to a trip that took hours. They're so stressed--peeing and pooping, scrounging and scraping into the corners looking for a place to hide. And, how can you know about what they're eating while they're 'grazing' at the campsite? What about the parasites and bacteria that may be present in the soil they spend the day in?

I don't mean to say the idea isn't a fun one, and Giovanni sounds like he's had good luck taking his tort with him, but I think the negative outweighs the positive on this one.
