: What you are looking for though is 'spineless' prickly pair cactus. Agian, read up on how to propagate this stuff before you buy it. It will save you time and money. Depending on the area in which you live will determine the difficulty in raising.
I'm not positive, but I think, at least here in Arizona, it's illegal to uproot, or harm, a native cacti. The neighbor thing would be the way to go, if possible. I got mine from the Turtle Cafe, and EJ's right, with very little maintenance they grow like a weed. And the torts love them.
