We've all posted our thoughts on the proposed experiment. But really we know very little about it, here are some questions I have for Justin.
Exactly which foods are to be fed, please list every food you intend to feed?
How long is the experiment to last, months, years, if years how many?
What would you consider a success:
A tortoise that grows slowly and smoothly with no obvious health problems.
A tortoise that lives through the experiment, but has pyramiding and accelerated growth?
A tortoise that survives the experiment but obviously has problems ,at least it lived right?
How are you going to know if the internal organs were effected by the diet?
Do you intend to sacrifice the tortoise so it can be necropsied? Or do you intend to have blood work done?
How many sulcatas hatchlings have you reared to date. What diet have they been on and what were the results. Smooth growth, pyramiding any other problems etc?
Do you intend to rear another sulcata at the same time, housed identicaly but fed a different diet. One that includes no greens high in oxalic acid, or legumes? If so, what exactly will the diet of that hatchling consist of?
If you don't think foods high in oxalic acid pose much of a problem, why are rubarb greens not included in your list of experimental foods?
Maybe others can add their questions to mine. If you're going to go ahead with the experiment I'd like to have many more details.
