Rep Cal is junk!!!!! I would not give my tortoise anything with calcium carbonate in it. Look for a good calcium suppliment from the health food store with calcium citrate in it. This is more absorbable than Rep Cal. Vitamin D3 colcalciferol is also used as a rat poison. At great doses it will actually strip the bones of calcium and deposit it in the soft tissues of the body. causing heart failure in acute cases and kidney or muscle cramps in cronic cases. The last I heard, tortoises cannot talk (even though mine tries)to tell you their muscles or joints hurt.
The best calcium is thru food intake. And Vitamin D from sun exposure.
: Question: Can you give too much "Calcium with Vit. D3" to a Tortoise?
: I give my Russian Tortoise "Olga" a little bit each day with her food. I don't want to over-do it, but I don't want her to be without the proper diet.
: Any advice would be appreciated.
