: I was wrong on one part. The baytril is absorbed mostly in the stomach.
: Although there has been no actual studies as to the effect on gut flora, anecdotal evidence shows there was no effect on the gut flora of herbivorous herps looking at all the cases where Baytril was administered orally.
: Another interesting note, trying to replace gut flora orally is basicly worthless. The Ph of the stomach is such that the introduced bacteria is destroyed before it ever reaches the hind gut. How is the gut flora replaced? (??????) But the chances of wiping out the gut flora with an antibiotic are slim to none.

What absolute, utter, dangerous - potentially lethal - drivel.

My dear sir, you really should desist posting such arrant nonesense.

Cases of antibiotic induced 'scour' are extremely common in all herbivores, from cattle, to camels - and tortoises. Looking at our own database of cases seen here over just the past 9 years, we find more than 40 such cases recorded, mostly from oral administration of tetracyclines, but latterly, from Baytril delivered orally too. In one of these recent cases, the tortoise (a G. elegans) almost died - and it took several weeks of intensive care to re-establish normal digestion. You will find plenty of other specialist veterinarians and re-habbers who can confirm similar experiences and results. Just ask Misty Corton in South Africa, for one..

Your sheer ignorance on these subjects seems to be outweighed only by your reckless confidence in issuing dangerous and misleading "information" and advice. I am sorry if you find this blunt - but you are endangering animal's lives by propagating this rubbish.

You are certainly a very good advertisement for those who state that advice obtained by the internet is likely to be dangerous and grossly misleading.

Your analysis of gut pH biology is also misguided and misunderstood.

Please - think again before issuing "information" that could very easily result in the deaths of animals.
