I understand you're hesitant because of the cost. (Wow, NYC is high $!) You have to do what's right for you. Even though I'm for taking him to the vet (personal opinion again folks), it might make you feel better knowing that I purchased 2 russians (wild caught) and they were completely clean and healthy (vet confirmed).

You just do your best and love your tort!
