Laurie,
You are exactly right, owning a large land tortoise is a lifetime committment. Being
the handler of large , and small tort's I can say that caring for a teenage sulcata is a full time
job that takes alot of time as well as patience because you can't give them a time out when they are bad. One time a woman in a pet store asked me about one as she was about to buy a hatchling for her son, and I told her my experiences ( which I normally don't do in pet stores, because I can't control what they do, just shake my head in disgust, nor will I attempt to)with my spurred tort's honestly, she decided not to buy it and left with an upset youngster that made me feel bad, because I was that kid once. That did nobody any favors and I will probably never do that again, but thanks to people like you( and hopefully they will lift the interstate travel ban)something will be done about the " Oh man , I wasn't expecting this to happen" syndrome of dumping these poor animals, and they will find a good home.Because if my 1 year old turns out to be a male in 10 years I'm gonna need a trade.
Grazie for your efforts to save testudines Laurie:)
Giovanni
