Russian question/defecation.

I have a question about defecation and the Russion Tortoise. I have a new Russian Tortoise named Anky. She is quite active and eats like there is no end. I was worried for a couple of days because she wouldn't defecate. Then... taking a cue from my experience with my boxies... I put her in warm water for a few minutes. That did the trick. Here is my question....

Do you normally have to put Tortoises in water to make them defecate? I was under the impression that you didn't. Boxies will naturally go to the water to defecate, but Anky seems to have very little interest in water... only in her veggies.

Finally, should I take her to a Vet for deworming as a matter of course?

Thanks for any help you're able to provide.
