I recently inherited a pair of yellow footed tortoises about 2 years ago which are kept outside in our backyard year round (live in Florida, occassionally they are brought inside on the cold evenings) and consume all of our wild grown plant life we leave along the fence rows and also feed them about once to twice per day various fresh fruits (bananna, papaya, squash, melons, etc.), dark leafy greens, etc. For the first 1 1/2 years we had them, the female constantly pushed and chased the male, often rolling him on his back, until recently when the male has been seen courting and mounting the female (loud little things!). Anyways, we have found a few isolated eggs in the backyard and I need to find out if the yellow-footed tort's typically lay all their eggs in one spot (which is what I would expect), or is this a sign that she is dumping unfertilized eggs (?). As a python keeper, it's quite easy to tell if you have an unfertilized egg, however is this possible with the tortoises. Also, last question, what is the minimum temp you would expose this species to (concerned more about evening drops in temps). I appreciate all responses and I imagine this has been addressed before here but I'm new to this specific forum. Thanks!
