Tomatoes are highly acidic and can lead to stomach problems, diarrhea, discomfort...not recommended. If you want to give a treat, give Opuntia Cactus which you can buy at www.turtlecafe.net. It's high in fiber and low in protein. Very good, can even be given every day in moderation.
The leaves of tomatoes and potatoes are, indeed, poisonous. The potato is related to the datura family, which is an alkaloid poison. The skins of potatoes are also very mildly toxic. They have little to no effect on humans, but I don't know about tortises.
