EJ is right - a laying female looks like she is on a mission.
Pacing, test digging, scratching, sniffing, even tasting substrate are all signs.
General restlessness sometimes happens just prior and then you will see some very deliberate actions as she seeks out an ideal nest site.
My CDT actually ate absolutely *enormous* amounts of food rather than going off food just before she dug her nest.
Just watch for a crazy she-tortoise...
