So often I hear over population as a reason for an animals demise, however many of these animals are being kept in quarters much smaller than the habitat they came from. The point? We do not have an over population problem. We have a habitat, and resource management problem. There is no reason we cannot sustain both high densities of humans and healthy populations of animals. It is only will we be willing to do what it will take.
You are right they are only pets, no matter how much we make off of breeding them.
: Or maybe the selfrighteous individuals who feel the need to judge those around him or her.
: Bottom line ... over population of this fragile planet. Try visiting some of these places where these animals are shipped out of. I haven't. I know I would be too depressed. Don't get me wrong. These as well as other animals hold a special place in my life but let's be real. These are pets no matter how we want to rationalize the keeping of them. Stop and think how much the average tortoise keep spends on his or her pet. Now do a little research as to where that pet came from and the PEOPLE who colletced it if it is wild caught. Now if you think this only occurs in third world countries think again. I am reminded of a herp collector and his rather large family in the SE US who thought a spegetti dinner was a special meal. (don't get me started)
