Bottom line ... over population of this fragile planet. Try visiting some of these places where these animals are shipped out of. I haven't. I know I would be too depressed. Don't get me wrong. These as well as other animals hold a special place in my life but let's be real. These are pets no matter how we want to rationalize the keeping of them. Stop and think how much the average tortoise keep spends on his or her pet. Now do a little research as to where that pet came from and the PEOPLE who colletced it if it is wild caught. Now if you think this only occurs in third world countries think again. I am reminded of a herp collector and his rather large family in the SE US who thought a spegetti dinner was a special meal. (don't get me started)
