No, this is not normal and it is a potentially dangerous situation. If not passed, stones like you describe can cause deadly blockages.
The most common cause of this is dehydration.
I'd take her to an vet experienced with tortoises for a check up and discuss with him preventative measures.
You should exercise caution when pulling anything from a tortoise's body as you can cause injury, but I can see why your tortoise would be relieved...imagine if you were blocked up that way for 5 hours.
