It would all depend on the furtilizer that was put down.Even if you wait until you mow three times, you are still dealing with the residuals left in the soil. Furtilizers are not only a topical agent, they become part of the soil and the plant. Some synthetic furtilizers are no diferant than synthetic vitamins you take or even give to your tort.(synthetic vitamins and minerals are all junk) I would irigate your lawn as good as posible. Many lawn fertilizers also have weed killers in them. Check and find out for shure. I do not recomend allowing tortoises feeding on herbicide treated lawns for at least one full year.
A good organic compost and kelp is good for fortifying your lawn with nitrogen and minerals. You dont need so much a plush green lawn as you need a healthy vitamin and mineral rich crop. Nitrogen is used to make grass green more than nutritionally healthy. Mulch your grass clippings instead of bagging, this will cut your feritilizing cost in half.
: i know not to let him eat grass thats been treated with pesticides or herbicides but what about fertalizers. if not, how long do i need to wait before he can graze on it? after next rain? longer?
: thanx
