a texas tortoise has wandered into our yard. we are feeding him ripe pear cactus fruit which he consumes in quantities while laying in the flooded flower garden, stretched out. i contacted the texas dept. of parks and wildlife. bylaw, they explained it is discouraged to encourage the endangered texas tortoise to adapt to a domesticated lifestyle, but to just feed him less and less till half-starved he wonders back out onto the streets surrounding us and gets run over in is search for food.basically not to interfere with his path.
there is
construction around us, neighborhoods and bridge. i believe all his local habitat around here has been altered. i don't believe on his/her own he could find adequate shelter or sustenance.
i need to bring her to some protected area. is there a tortoise reserve area in south texas.
ps
after eating two pear fruit and drinking for 20 minutes, a day later he marched clear across the yard, climbed up onto the front doorstep and defecated a monster and left a large puddle.
question
is this teritorial, or gratitude?
