i have been soaking mine about once a week. they hate it though. they fight being in the bowl so much that they don't drink. i've given up and now that they are outside i just leave a fresh dish of water for them and leave them alone! and yes, a captive can still have worms. good idea to get him checked. good luck.

: I have a new Russian tortoise, but I'm confused about the soaking thing. I have been doing lots of research, but everything I read says something different. How often should I soak him, and for how long? once a week? twice a week? once a month? I'm getting very confused as to what is best for the guy. He is a few years old. Also, I've heard that lots of new torts have worms. Is this the case with captive bred ones too? Mine is captive bred, so could he still have worms?
