: Hello All,
: Anyway, yesterday I walked into the room with their enclosure and couldn`t find the female anywhere. Man, talk about panic!!! After 20 mins of frantic searches I thought a bit more logically and carefully probed around in the soft substrate area. Lo and behold, there she was right at the bottom of the enclosure, completely covered. She is still there as of today and has not really moved as far as I can tell. She has also been eating a lot recently, something I attributed to acclimatisation. So now I wonder what`s so interesting under all that dirt?
Normal behaviour. They are diggers and love to get under or into soil, leaves, mulch etc...
: Obviously I`m thinking "egg-laying maybe", but does anyone have any comments or even experience with egg-laying in any of the Spider Toroises?
We have a female that just laid a single good egg about a week ago. Yes, Spiders are now in the collection. As to my earlier comments (a few weeks ago) about them? Well, I paid about one third of what most people are asking for them and picked from the direct importer BEFORE anyone ever got to them to work that magic oxytocin spell. In other words, we beat "the man" to the punch. They are simply incredible looking specimens... far better than most we have looked over which was the reason for passing on so many. The egg looks good and hopefully in a few months we'll be closer to a baby. I'll have pics on my site in the near future. Best of luck with your torts and don't worry, she's just getting comfortable under all that dirt.
Matt
