yes its true, they have that something that other reptiles dont. Someone can correct me if im wrong, but i heard that from all reptiles, we can say that, in a way, tortoises are the nearest one to human (on an evolution tree==>im french... doesnt know the english term).

ps. The above comment on evolution(made by the remains of my reptilian brain by the way) was not intended to start a fundamentalist discussion (which is no discussion in my opinion).
