JJ-
For being 'just a kid' you're pretty responsible. If you have Andy's book then you know sometimes the males are very agressive and cause major bite injuries in their quest to 'slow down' the female. I don't know about biting legs off, but I guess alot would depend on your male's size versus your female's size. The earlier recommendations to check for anything (other than the male) that could have caused the injury, as well as adding a screen are good ones. When your tortoise completes her recuperation, you might want to check back if you notices she's having real difficulty moving around -- others involved in these lists have been very creative in putting together devices to help their handicapped torts. Please take your tort back to the vet if you don't think she's healing, or if you notice any signs of infection. And, if you haven't already, you probably should keep her separated from the rest of the group until she's healed, and in the long-term future, keep the male and females separated unless you are present to supervise.

Good luck and let us know how things are going,
Kathy
