Has anyone tried treating their soil in their animal pens with calcium carbonate powder to increase calcium content in their graze or vegetables, etc...? Just wondering, since it can be bought for really cheap in large volumes, and dusted over an entire yard a couple of times, soaked in with rain... perhaps a series of 2-3 dustings each spring would drastically raise calcium content in natural foods for the torts?
I suppose supplimenting is easy enough, but it requires food sources that are prepped. I'm working on a plan for pens that will provide year round (well, except for winter) food products "naturally" and require minimal supplimentation and be most "wild" for the animals. Obviously increasing the calcium in the soil would be easy, and worth it IF it's effective in raising the calcium in the food materials (graze, berries, fruits, veggies)...
anyway, just curious. I've got a few months to plan before the house is built.
